Pilot site at Aalborg University (AAU) – Denmark
The Aalborg University building is a mixed-use facility spanning approximately 9,000 m², accommodating around 150 staff and 600 students. It includes laboratories, offices, lecture halls, group rooms, and a central atrium.
The building features a dedicated server room with 25 high-power computers, generating significant waste heat, presenting an opportunity for reuse.
Key Features:
- Fully equipped Schneider BMS monitoring HVAC, lighting, hot water, and cooling.
- District heating connection and 6 kWp PV system.
- 9 ventilation units (some with heat recovery/free-cooling).
- 3 cooling units and natural ventilation options for the atrium.
- Domestic hot water via heat exchangers.
- High-resolution data logging of more than 3000 measurement and control points going back to as early as 2022.
This pilot will help demonstrate how IT waste heat can support energy optimization and decarbonization strategies in tertiary buildings using existing infrastructure.
