Self-Assessment Tool for Air and Liquid-Cooled Data Centres

As part of the HEATWISE project, D&S Tech is developing the Self-Assessment Tool (SAT). This tool aims to facilitate real-time monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of thermal and energy performance across pilot data centres. The SAT is being developed in both standalone and web-based versions, with the web version implemented using the open-source framework to ensure broad accessibility and scalability.

Designed for seamless integration with open-source data acquisition systems, the SAT will offer data centre operators a comprehensive dashboard. This dashboard will enable the tracking of thermal, power-based, and newly proposed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Users will have the functionality to select various cooling methods, define specific time ranges, and evaluate system performance through features such as power maps, interactive heatmaps, KPI trend graphs, and ASHRAE compliance maps. Furthermore, the tool incorporates automated PDF report generation, which supports internal benchmarking and alignment with the EU Energy Efficiency Directive (EED), as outlined by the European Data Centre Association (EUDCA).

Core functionalities of the SAT include dynamic KPI descriptions, power and temperature visualizations, adjustable data resolution, and intelligent resolution warnings. The development of the SAT is an ongoing process, continuously refined based on feedback from project partners. As illustrated in the following figure, the SAT will be deployed across all HEATWISE pilot data centres, including its implementation in external pilots within tertiary buildings.
